Kylie Phillips’s path into the world of natural skincare began with a series of life-altering events, leading her from an administrative career to becoming a devoted carer for her family. Her story is one of resilience, driven by personal experiences with sensitive skin conditions, a journey that ultimately led her to the transformative doors of the School of Natural Skincare.

The Prelude to Natural Skincare

Before delving into the realms of formulating natural skincare, Kylie’s life had taken a different trajectory.

“Since I left high school, I fell into administration, until I ended up with an RSI injury. Then after losing my position due to that injury not healing I moved back home, which turned out to be a good thing, because after my dad retired, he got sick. So, I became a carer for my parents.”

Kylie’s daughter’s battle with eczema and her own skin sensitivities sparked a quest for natural remedies. While she was breastfeeding, she noticed a pattern: when her daughter became allergic to something, she would develop the same allergy within months.

In addition, her daughter was recently diagnosed with ADHD and ASD, “so there’s a lot of sensitivities there with regards to diet and what goes on the body and into the body.”

Determined to find a solution, she ventured into the world of natural skincare.

“That led me to find somebody who was into making natural products and learning more about tox-free living. And so, I learned a little bit, went online and saw some recipes and things, and then I decided it would be a good idea to actually learn something properly.”

The Quest for Knowledge

In her pursuit of a solution, Kylie came across the School of Natural Skincare. Enrolling in the Certificate in Making Natural Skincare Products provided her with a glimpse into the possibilities of formulating natural skincare products.

With an insatiable appetite for knowledge, she continued to the Diploma in Natural Skincare Formulation, immersing herself in the science behind skincare and the alchemy of ingredient blending. Through this journey, she unlocked the secrets of crafting chemical-free, nature-based skincare solutions.

“I really enjoyed all of the science, learning how the skin works to why the skin doesn’t work at times, and getting into learning about all of that was brilliant.”

Soon, it wasn’t long before Kylie discovered the Natural Cosmetic Formulation Club; a membership portal packed with learning resources, from courses and classes, to templates and charts, experiments and reports, formulations, guides, video tutorials and more.

“I’ve learned a lot through [the Club] as well with the extra courses, particularly the mini-courses on pricing and product photography. So now I do all of my own photography.”

Unveiling the Practice, Art and Science of Natural Skincare Formulation

The courses ignited a passion within Kylie, empowering her to experiment and create products tailored to her family’s unique needs. The process was not without its challenges, but armed with newfound knowledge, she mastered the art of formulation. Her confidence surged as she fine-tuned products, addressing concerns like eczema, dermatitis, and skin irritations prevalent within her family.

“It’s given me the confidence that I can make these products, that I can experiment. It’s okay if it flops, because that’s how you learn. And if something hasn’t quite gone right, then I’ve been able to then just go back and have that knowledge to be able to review it…. and altering that formulation to then be able to create that product that we really love.”

Embracing the Entrepreneurial Spirit

Kylie’s journey didn’t just culminate in personal revelations; it ignited an entrepreneurial spark.

Studying at the times she wanted and not being restricted by a set timetable or deadlines worked out perfectly for Kylie, who needed that freedom for health reasons;

“Being somebody that has permanent injuries and two types of arthritis, I needed to find something that I can do at home, that I can set my own hours and work around my body. So, being able to do that, that’s really given me that avenue to be able to now grow into an income stream and hopefully in time be able to support my family using my brand.”

Kylie’s brand, KP Natural Skincare, still in its blossoming stages, has garnered attention at local markets and is progressively expanding online. Through her product range she extends her passion to others seeking natural solutions.

One particular product of interest is Kylie’s Hydrating Body Butter, which has colloidal oatmeal and other ingredients in it to really help hydrate and smooth the skin, especially irritable skin. Hand and Body Lotions, in a range of scents (from strawberries and cream to vanilla) and Foot and Halm Balms, Kylie has developed a number of products that use natural ingredients, to build “a core and solid range”.

Words of Encouragement for Others Natural Beauty Lovers

Her advice to budding formulators resonates with her journey: embrace education, experiment fearlessly, and seek the knowledge needed to craft solutions. She advocates for perseverance and the resilience to learn from failures, as these are the building blocks of success.

“Absolutely look at the course, because that will give you all the knowledge that you do need to be able to gain that confidence, to be able to make the things for yourself and to be able to find everything that you need ingredients-wise.

Because the course does cover so much internationally, which is fantastic, it’s given me the knowledge to know where to go, how to look for the products, how to look for the ingredients, using the INCI names and things like that rather than the trade names to be able to search them in my location.”

Kylie’s Journey Doesn’t End Here

Her vision extends to making KP Natural Skincare a sustainable income source, balancing familial needs and health considerations. She’s on a trajectory to expand her online presence, diversify her product line, and resonate with a broader audience seeking natural skincare solutions.

“I love that creative process. I love to formulate. And that’s what you need when you’re going forward, especially when you’re getting a little bit older. You really need something that you love to do, something that gives you that passion to get up every day and really enjoy it. My passion for the future is to keep that alive, keep that passion and keep that joy in doing what I do.”

Kylie’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of education, passion, and personal experiences in crafting a brand centered on nature’s remedies. Her commitment to creating natural skincare solutions not only benefits her family but also extends a guiding light to others seeking a natural, chemical-free approach to skincare.

“The whole journey has meant so much to me.”

Kylie is an Inspiration! Could You Do Something Similar?

Kylie’s story shows that it doesn’t always have to be about launching your own brand or selling your own natural skincare products. What comes first is a love for natural skincare and a desire to do something meaningful for yourself which was the single most important factor for Kylie.

Through her healing journey she not only managed to solve many of her own skincare problems (as well as her daughters!) but she was able to help many other people in the process and that got her thinking about the possibility of selling her products. It was the natural next step but what helped her to get to that stage was seeing the difference her products made and the fun and creativity she got out of her passion and hobby for making her own skincare products.

Natural skincare products can do so much for us. They can be a great source of joy, fun and creativity. They can be the catalyst to solving skincare problems and promoting healthy, glowing skin. They can be the start of something much greater – a natural beauty brand that offers the same benefits to other people.

All of this is made possible by learning to formulate your own natural skincare products for yourself and that’s something we make possible with our online courses and programs. We teach [people the professional art, science and practice of natural skincare formulation which sees our students bring their passion and DiY spirit and we bring all of the professional methods, techniques and science. This enables students to go beyond the limitations of DiY products and instead into the realm of professional quality natural products that are ready for sale should they wish to do that.

We teach students of our Diploma in Natural Skincare Formulation to create products as if they were doing it for their future brand (or their existing brand). This means that they come out with professional quality products as well as the very essence of their brand identity. This is the best place to start for anyone interested in creating their own complete range of products and it helps them to do so without following other people’s recipes.

Lubna Melhem’s Journey: A Quest for Natural Skincare and Entrepreneurship https://www.schoolofnaturalskincare.com/student-feature-lubna-melham/ Mon, 27 Nov 2023 08:13:30 +0000 https://www.schoolofnaturalskincare.com/?p=139740 The post Lubna Melhem’s Journey: A Quest for Natural Skincare and Entrepreneurship appeared first on School of Natural Skincare.

Lubna Melhem’s path to owning her own natural skincare brand is an inspiring tale of resilience and transformation. A 45-year-old entrepreneur from Tripoli, Lebanon, with an unconventional background in business computer science and HR, Lubna’s journey was set in motion by a life-altering event – a car accident. This accident opened her eyes to the remarkable healing power of natural ingredients and “the power of nature”.

Discovering the School of Natural Skincare

As Lubna embarked on her journey into natural skincare, she felt the need for a better understanding of ingredients and the anatomy of the skin.

This need led her to the School of Natural Skincare, where she found a wealth of knowledge and resources to nurture her growing passion. Her pursuit wasn’t solely driven by her entrepreneurial spirit; it was about delving deeper into the science and art of natural skincare.

The pivotal point of Lubna’s journey was enrolling in the School of Natural Skincare’s Advanced Certificate in High-Performance Serum Formulation. Her motivation was to create exceptional serums for the face, products that would provide a natural, radiant glow while enhancing the skin’s health. To achieve this, she needed to learn the intricate details of ingredient selection, formulation techniques, and the science behind the products. The course opened up a world of natural skincare possibilities.

Enrolling in the Advanced Certificate in High-Performance Serum Formulation, Lubna learnt everything she needed to know to formulate her own natural, high-performance facial serums and oils from professional cosmetic scientists.

“I enrolled in the advanced serum course because the skin of the face is very sensitive and delicate. So in order to produce a very good serum for the face that gives you the glow and the softness for the skin I have to learn about skin.”

Studying the Advanced Certificate in High-Performance Serum Formulation meant Lubna could learn about skin anatomy, formulating for different skin types; mature and aging, dry, oily and acne-prone skin, sensitive and healthy skin.

The course also teaches students from around the world about new cutting-edge ingredients like plant oils, esters, botanical extracts, AHAs, BHAs, advanced functional ingredients, vitamins and over 75 active ingredients (that are toning, anti-aging, skin brightening and much more!).

It is these super-power ingredients that Lubna was attracted to. With a passion for plants and hydrosols, Lubna could advance her knowledge and aptitude. Growing her own plants, she would then “extract from it hydrosols and oils because I know what I’m putting in my products because no chemicals are added to my plants. It’s a trying process, but it’s very beautiful.”

Studying with the School of Natural Skincare

The course at the School of Natural Skincare proved to be an invaluable asset on Lubna’s journey. It offered a structured approach to skincare formulation, covering various aspects, from the ingredients suitable for different skin types to the intricacies of humectants and emulsifiers. Video demonstrations added a practical element to her learning, providing a clear understanding of how to combine ingredients effectively.

“I loved how they categorized each part, like skin for mature skin [etc], and where I can find all the ingredients worldwide. Each session they give to the student, the whole knowledge, the whole package together and the videos… It was amazing.”

The knowledge she gained through the course breathed new life into her passion. It wasn’t just about creating products anymore; it was about creating products that were backed by science, that could truly make a difference for her customers.

“The quality of [my] products has [gone] to a higher level since I started the course. And the vision of my products and the mindset of how I deliver the product and talk about the product to the customer have changed since I took the course with [the] School of Natural Skincare.”

Advice for Budding Formulators

For those aspiring to venture into the world of natural skincare, Lubna has some valuable advice. She stresses the importance of changing one’s mindset, as it’s the mindset that ultimately shapes the journey; “Always change your mindset. Your mindset is where you are going to reach. Nothing is easy, but you have to work hard for what you dream of”.

Lubna’s story serves as a testament to the fact that hard work, determination, and a relentless pursuit of knowledge can lead to fulfilling one’s dreams.

The Essence of Lubby Lubs

Lubna’s brand, Lubby Lubs, stands for more than just skincare. It represents a commitment to using ingredients she grows herself to ensure quality control. Her products are organic and eco-friendly, packaged in glass containers to minimize the environmental footprint.

Ultimately, Lubna’s brand is “about anti-aging skincare”: skin brightening face serums with vitamin C for people with hyperpigmentation and dark circles; hyaluronic serums; anti-aging under eye and face creams… “So it’s everything [the customer] needs for the face in anti-aging”.

Lubna’s passion about natural skincare grows every time she receives a call from an elated customer; “When you get a call from your customer telling you, ‘Thank you so much, you saved my life. I have very beautiful skin, that gives you the passion to do more and more and more!” So much so that Lubna is now venturing into products for men like beard oil and balm!

Looking to the future

Lubna’s vision for Lubby Lubs extends far and wide. Her plan is to make her brand accessible to a global audience, leveraging the power of e-commerce and social media. Lubna’s commitment to her craft, her journey from accident recovery to natural skincare entrepreneur, and her dedication to her vision are a source of inspiration for anyone seeking to make a mark in the world of natural skincare.

In Lubna’s story, we find a reminder that success is not just about creating products but about creating products that resonate with a higher purpose – nurturing and enhancing the skin, leveraging the power of nature, and inspiring customers. As she extends her brand, Lubna Melhem is not just crafting skincare; she’s crafting a legacy.

Sometimes deep-diving into a new career can be out of the question. Financial demands and personal responsibilities can get in the way of our dreams. But what if you want to evolve your hobby into something a little more serious? There is a way! School of Natural Skincare student Rhodline Hamelo explains how.

A passion for hair

Two years ago, Rhodline, from the USA, had absolutely no formulating experience, but she did have a passion. She loved hair. And her own hair was beautifully long, but was starting to show signs of breakage. Without a shred of formulating experience, Rhodline’s passion and need to help her hair, to “find my own regimen that I can grow my own hair, do my own thing that will help me” drove her curiosity.

Like the majority of people with a need for a question to be answered, Rhodline opened up her browser, and searched on YouTube. But the videos she viewed provided vague information and unscientific solutions.

“I realized that it just wasn’t adding up for me. I’m like, ‘Okay, these things are not adding up. I need to learn more. I need to know more. I need to do something to also help other people. I can’t just rely on YouTube.’”

Rhodline works for the US government. Her days are spent working a full time job in an intense environment. Two years ago was no different. Rhodline knew that if she was to find the answers she needed to “do my own thing that will help me.” She knew she needed a flexible study program.

“And that’s how I was like, ‘Okay, I need to start searching for a good school, an accredited school that I can put myself into to learn more,’ and that’s how I found you guys.”

Rhodline’s analytical and meticulous mind stretched further than her career in government. A lot of research was undertaken in online courses and when the School of Natural Skincare was found, the investigating didn’t stop there.

“I wasn’t going to throw my money away. I read a lot of reviews, went on your Facebook page. I really looked into it. I also wanted to make sure that you guys were accredited.”

Every one of the School of Natural Skincare’s courses are indeed accredited, by the globally recognized CPD Certification Service. The CPD Certification Service assesses each course individually, evaluating the quality of training materials and learning activities against the highest standards.

Student reviews were readily available for Rhodline to read and they soon convinced her that the School of Natural Skincare was a professional, world-class school that had taught over 15,000 students from 150 countries.

“I wanted to hear what other people were saying. The people who have taken the classes, what have they really benefited out of it? And that’s what actually made me take the step to take the classes.”

A beginner’s course for a new learner

To start her journey into the natural cosmetics industry, Rhodline decided to first enroll in the beginner’s course – the Certificate in Making Natural Skincare Products – “And that was amazing.”

Immediately, Rhodline could see the knowledge she was getting from the Certificate was incredibly advanced compared to the YouTube videos she had viewed. With those amateur videos,

“I wasn’t measuring. I was just putting things together, just pouring and using my eyeball to measure. So, coming to the school… It really helped me. I’m not going to lie – coming to the school answers all your questions.”

Rhodline Hamelo: A Thriving Natural Haircare and Skincare Business as a Second Job Student success stories

Soon, formulating became second nature. Even something so simple as measuring, which was vague or not even done on some amateur websites, meant a huge difference to how products were being made, such as “I know that if I’m making eight ounces of bottles, I know how many bottles I’m going to get out of it.”

And Rhodline’s knowledge of natural and organic ingredients and processes shot through the roof;

“I knew so many different ingredients and how to put them together, what not to put together. When you come, you get to hear so many ingredients that you can actually add to your stuff that will help you. I know how to formulate, and I know my oil phase and my water phase and how to homogenize them together…”

A growing resume of knowledge

After completing the Certificate in Making Natural Skincare Products, Rhodline then moved on to the more intermediate Diploma in Natural Haircare Formulation to dive deeper into her passion for haircare.

“It’s really beneficial when you actually really have the right background information of skincare and haircare. You need to know the right background. You just can’t go online and just listen to what people are saying.”

The Diploma in Natural Haircare Formulation takes students through everything they need to know to formulate their own custom, high-performance shampoos and creamy, perfect conditioners, all taught by professional, experienced professional formulators.

This gradual method of teaching, supported each step of the way by tutors and a community of formulating peers, helped Rhodline to create some amazing and beautiful natural ingredient products.

“I like making leave-in conditioners. I get to make it my own. So, I come to the school, and you give me the basis of how to make a leave-in conditioner. But then I come back and then I make my own ingredients that nobody knows so I make it my own and people love it. People use it, they love it. And that’s the beauty of it.”

How has her confidence grown since completing the courses? “I think it’s grown. If you’re saying from a level up to a 10, I’m going to give myself a nine!”

Rhodline has kept all her notes and formulation paperwork from the courses and still refers to them when creating new products; “You have to write your formulas down. I still go back to my notes and say, ‘Okay, let me go back to my notes and just refresh myself again.’”

Rhodline Hamelo: A Thriving Natural Haircare and Skincare Business as a Second Job Student success stories

Supporting students in every way possible

Unlike some course providers who send out the materials and leave learners to study alone, the School of Natural Skincare has expert cosmetic formulators that support students at every point in the course. There is also a peer Facebook group for even more support that,

“has so many people on there with amazing ideas. You can just go in there and throw your questions and people will answer. It’s just having a community of like-minded people. I like that; having that closeness.”

Professionally filmed videos of the scientific tutors are also popular with students, including Rhodline;

“When we’re in a class, there’s a video of somebody formulating the items with all the ingredients. That really helps a lot. You’re not just reading the stuff, you’re also visualizing it with the videos that you’re watching so that helps.”

Advice for wannabe natural ingredient formulators

From an enthusiastic researcher, there must be some advice that Rhodline would give to people around the world who are curious about becoming natural and organic hair and skincare formulators.

“I really did my research, and then I stuck with [the School of Natural Skincare] and I haven’t regretted. I still get all the newsletters. I still open them. [The School] sometimes give free recipes and I love them. So, if you have the idea to enroll into the school or you want to, just do it.”

Whether making natural products for yourself, friends and family, or to sell to the public, the need to have the information and advice to create safe and correct products is paramount, and having a certificate to prove your skills and knowledge is a real deal breaker.

“This is skincare and haircare. We’re not playing with people’s skin, we’re not playing with people’s hair, so we want to make sure that we know what we’re doing.”

You don’t need to have any prior knowledge before you enroll. Everything is covered in detail and students gain a good depth of knowledge about creating natural and organic skincare and haircare.

“If you don’t have any experience, it’s okay to come on board. I know the teachers are always there to help. The instruments are there, the documents are there for you to read. The videos are there.”

Rhodline Hamelo: A Thriving Natural Haircare and Skincare Business as a Second Job Student success stories

A new natural cosmetics brand

Rhodline took all her knowledge of hair and skincare, and formed a new beauty brand – Beaute Blossom – exchanging study time for business time!

Covering a range of products from hair serums and facial masks to baby soothing balm and beard oil, Beaute Blossom has its own website, Instagram and Etsy pages.

And Rhodline’s confidence in herself filters through into her confidence of her products;

“I think I’m actually at a stage now that I feel confident in the stuff that I make now. In the beginning I’m like, ‘I’m a little bit iffy about the stuff, but I’m still going to sell it’. But now I’m, ‘Okay, I know that I got it now’. You get to the point where you know that you got everything right.”

So, how does it feel to be able to create beautiful natural skincare and haircare products?

“Just the beauty of putting my own things together is amazing. It feels good. It feels amazing!”

How to create your own natural skincare and haircare products and launch your own brand

Launching your own natural beauty brand is a dream that many natural beauty enthusiasts have and with the right guidance it is absolutely possible. Most people are worried about it because they lack the perceived “business acumen” required to make a success of it, but we know this isn’t true. So many of our graduates have gone from DiY Beauty Enthusiast to Beauty Brand Owners by studying with us.

The key is to learn how to formulate natural & organic skincare and haircare products like a professional. This isn’t to say that you need to let go of your DiY spirit or your passion and hobby for making natural products. On the contrary, it means that you bring that with you and we’ll show you the way that professional formulators and scientists create products from scratch and how you can begin doing this yourself at home.

We teach people, like you, to formulate your products as if you were doing it for your brand, or your future brand. The process you go through to create a product from scratch is largely the same process you’d go through to design and create your own brand.

If you want to launch a natural skincare brand, then our Diploma in Natural Skincare Formulation is the option you’ll want to take. You’ll learn to formulate your own complete range of natural skincare products that are just as good as, if not better than, the ones sold in shops. You’ll learn the professional art, science and practice of skincare formulation and what you need to do to comply with cosmetic regulations in your region, wherever you are in the world.

Many, like Rhodline, are interested in formulating natural haircare products as well. If that’s something you’d like to do then our Diploma in Natural Haircare Formulation is the course you’ll want to enroll on. Adrienn Major: From Soapmaking Hobbyist in Chile to Natural Cosmetics Business Owner in Mexico https://www.schoolofnaturalskincare.com/student-feature-adrienn-major/ Fri, 17 Nov 2023 09:15:12 +0000 https://www.schoolofnaturalskincare.com/?p=139709 The post Adrienn Major: From Soapmaking Hobbyist in Chile to Natural Cosmetics Business Owner in Mexico appeared first on School of Natural Skincare.

Sometimes a pastime can go beyond just experimenting for fun. Sometimes it can develop into an amazing career or business. And that is just what happened to Adrienn Major, whose budding soapmaking hobby was to become the start of a successful cosmetics brand, thanks to the School of Natural Skincare.

Living in Chile, Adrienn was a passionate vegan, living and cooking by her vegan standards and striving for a colorful, plant-based lifestyle. She regularly bought soaps from her friend, and loved how natural and organic they were. It was that friend who taught Adrienn how to make the soaps herself.

After her first guidance on learning the basics of soapmaking, Adrienn rushed home, opened her kitchen cupboards, and looked for ingredients to color her soaps. This was the beginning of a new passion; “Even though I could only make a few things at that time, I thought that this is going to be my future and I’m going to set up my own business, and I wanted to change my life.”

But it would prove to be a lot more difficult than she first imagined.

The Need for a Credible Natural and Organic Ingredient School

When Adrienn moved to Mexico in the Caribbean, where the climate was very different, “everything turned upside down”. The humidity of her new home was off the charts. No longer could Adrienn make soaps with the same ingredients and amounts as before; “I had to reformulate my formulas, so it was really challenging.”

After some online searching, Adrienn found some not-so helpful DIY sites that offered limited help. “I knew that there’s so much information out there and it’s really difficult to filter what is right, what is not.”

A course was needed that Adrienn could get her teeth into. A course that would help her adapt her formulations to suit the new climate. One that would help her create natural, scientifically truthful and safe products, and that would lead to the business she had dreamed of – “I felt that I needed structured information and something that I can trust”.

Shortly, Adrienn found the School of Natural Skincare and enrolled on some free courses on offer; “I started to dive into this whole new world, and it was really fascinating.”

After the free courses she enrolled onto the hugely popular Diploma in Natural Skincare Formulation, and “really liked how it’s structured”. Adrienn discovered that the course was “really practical and the information [was] really clear, understandable.”

The Diploma in Natural Skincare Formulation changed the way Adrienn created her products. With expert lessons, guidance, and assessments from qualified cosmetic formulators, a more confident side to Adrienn was starting to emerge.

Soon, Adrienn began to use her new knowledge and qualification to start her own natural skincare brand. The need for professionalism was paramount:

“If it was only a hobby, it would be a different thing. But this is my main only source of income, so this is really my business and I know that I have to be focused and structured.”

And it was this focus and attention to detail that came about after her School of Natural Skincare studies:

“I [used to] get this ingredient and I want to make this, and I just jump into it and I do it. But now I try to always sit down and say, okay, get the product development brief, and try to think first, okay, why am I doing that?”

Adrienn Major: From Soapmaking Hobbyist in Chile to Natural Cosmetics Business Owner in Mexico Student success stories

As the teaching continued, Adrienn “gained a lot of confidence during the course” and helped her to “polish” her formulas. The jargon of “ingredients with funny names” was no longer like a foreign language to Adrienn, and she learned more about the business side of formulating, too.

“I was struggling a little bit with the business vision. So, it was really, really helpful how the course shows you how to set up a business and to bear in mind that, okay, you can play formulating for yourself, but if you want to do it for sales, you should always [remember] the steps, why am I doing it? Who am I doing it for? It was really, really helpful.”

From basic products born of a passion for natural ingredients, to a scientific understanding and grasp of business essentials and cosmetic regulations, the Diploma in Natural Skincare Formulation covered everything Adrienn needed to know to have a successful brand, and more.

Values that Underlie the Business

But at the heart of what Adrienn creates is her values, many of which are shared with the School of Natural Skincare.

When she first started, veganism was definitely high on Adrienn’s list of values to incorporate into her brand, as was cruelty-free, natural ingredients and avoiding synthetic elements. An additional value that is becoming more and more conventional in natural cosmetic brands, is zero waste.

“When I had this idea to have my own brand, I was only making soaps and shampoo bars, so it was a perfect start for zero-based products. And also living here in the Caribbean, I’m quite obsessed with recycling and the rubbish.”

Adrienn has witnessed the impact non-recyclable packaging can have on the environment, so decided to use as little packaging as possible, and what she did use had to be recyclable.

This important issue of reducing your environmental impact, and upcycling ingredients is explored in our Diploma in Zero Waste Skincare and Haircare Formulation, where you can create an entire skincare and haircare range in solid bars or powder concentrates.

“I live 10 minutes from the ocean, it’s a village beach, so it’s always clean, but you go a little bit further and you have all the trash that comes with the ocean.”

Aside from the serious issues of health and the environment, Adrienn hasn’t forgotten the pure enjoyment that comes from creating and formulating.

“It’s creative! It’s really beautiful when I start and then different things come out. I found it fascinating to make different creams and according to oils and extracts and stuff that I mix in, then it comes out one black, one orange, one pink. It’s really beautiful.”

Adrienn Major: From Soapmaking Hobbyist in Chile to Natural Cosmetics Business Owner in Mexico Student success stories

What are These Beautiful Products?

“My brand is called Sayab which means, in Maya, the source of life. My vision was to make a fusion of cosmetics and herbs. So what I do is I include herbs in some forms in each of the products, whether it’s in powder, in the soaps, in the shampoo bars, or an infusion in oils.”

There is one product, Divine Connection, a serum facial oil, that uses ingredients such as energy-cleansing copal (a resin) from the ceiba tree that, according to Mayan mythology, is sacred. Another is Sayab’s Mayan Magic face serum, which harnesses ingredients from the tepezcohuite tree.

“One of the very important characteristics of my brand is that I try to make a fusion of cosmetics and herbalism. So, I use herbs in each of my products. And since I live in Mayan lands, I try to use local herbs.”

Targeted toward “people who care about plants” and the conscious consumer, for whom it’s “important for them not to buy something that comes in plastic”, the Sayab brand is sold on the brand’s website, in vegan stores in four cities, various seasonal markets and even in five-star hotels. The sky really is the limit for Adrienn.

The Future for Sayab Cosmetics

So, what does the future have in store for Adrienn and her business? Ingredients-wise, “I really would like to work with local communities to source the local herbs. Or even maybe to make the production when it’s too big for me to do it alone, to get involved with local people”.

Regarding the brand’s profile, “…online publicity like Instagram, how to get more followers and all these things are what I need to work on. So, my next step will be to work on the website and online selling.”

And, what advice would Adrienn give to all the formulators out there that have an idea, a dream, a values-driven passion for natural ingredients, but who are doubting their decision to make their hobby a business?

“I think that if you have the call to do this, you should try. I know that sometimes there are difficulties or sometimes there are some obstacles, but if you really feel that you should do this, you should try.”

“It’s really not expensive to make a small production and go to a local market. You can start it very small and try it out to see how it works, and maybe you can go to the next step!”

At the start of Adrienn’s journey she “learned the very, very basic” recipes for making cosmetics, just starting with soapmaking. Now, she has a successful natural, vegan-inspired cosmetic range and a thriving business. What an inspiration!

“I feel quite proud of myself that if I look at where I started it from, the whole design was really basic and the packaging was really basic. And where I got now, it’s like there’s a huge difference. There’s a huge evolution.”

How to kickstart your dream to launch your own natural beauty business?

What we love about Adrienn’s story is how fuelled with passion and desire it is. Adrienn has taken it upon herself to make it happen and she has now turned it into her sole and main source of income.

Whether you believe it to be possible or not, our students are living proof that it can be done and we’re immensely proud of Adrienn’s achievements and we’re extremely grateful to have been part of our journey.

Learning to formulate your own natural skincare products is an art and science and it takes practice too! That’s why we teach all of those facets – the art, science and practice of natural skincare formulation – inside our Diploma in Natural Skincare Formulation.

This is an accredited online diploma course that teaches you everything you need to formulate your own complete range of natural & organic skincare products. We teach professional processes and methods using the very highest of industry standards which means that you come out with products that are a cut above the rest – DiY of course but made to professional standards ready to sell and be part of a successful brand.

What’s more, the way we teach students to formulate their own products is as if they were doing so for their brand, or future brand. The process you go through to formulate products is very similar to the process you’d go through to design and create your brand. So why not do both at the same time?

If you’re more interested in creating haircare products, you can check out our Diploma in Natural Haircare Formulation. In the bustling world of academia and legal practice, it’s not often that you encounter a passionate advocate for natural skincare. Leslie Culver, a teacher of law at the University of Utah, is breaking the mold. She’s embarked on a remarkable journey into the world of natural skincare, driven by a love for her daughters and a vision of creating products that align with her principles.

Leslie’s story is one of empowerment, sustainability and beauty with purpose, as she brings the School of Natural Skincare into her life’s narrative.

A Natural-Minded Journey

Leslie’s journey into the world of natural skincare began with her natural-minded approach to life; “I’ve generally always been very natural-minded focused.”

Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, Leslie has also lived in California, Missouri and Florida, and her passion for all things natural has been a constant thread throughout her life. Her mindful approach to choosing products with recognizable ingredients and a preference for plant-based solutions set the stage for her venture into natural skincare.

The Catalyst: A Seven-Year-Old Dancer

The turning point in Leslie’s journey arrived with her youngest daughter, Nia, a seven-year-old competitive dancer. As Nia’s dance competitions loomed, Leslie was faced with the prospect of using conventional makeup products on her young daughter. Concerned about the expense, as well as the potential harm to Nia’s delicate skin, Leslie decided to take matters into her own hands.

“I’m just a DIYer by heart. If I can figure out how to make it, that is my jam. I love it. I was like, ‘I’m just going to figure out how to make this’.”

Armed with her DIY spirit, Leslie began experimenting with creating makeup products for her daughter.

Leslie’s initial foray into DIY skincare and makeup was not without its challenges. She grappled with understanding the science behind formulation, ingredient choices, and product efficacy. The trial-and-error process was both a learning experience and a testament to her determination.

Crafting homemade solutions that were fun but not fully complete, Leslie knew her creation needed professionalism; “It’s crumbling. It’s all over the place. So then when the competition started coming around, I was like, ‘Let me figure out how to really do this!’”

The School of Natural Skincare: A Guiding Light

Leslie’s journey led her to the School of Natural Skincare, dedicated to teaching the art and science of creating natural and organic skincare and haircare products. As she researched into the school’s resources, blogs and courses, Leslie knew the School was the way forward.

The School of Natural Skincare provided her with the knowledge and guidance she needed to elevate her DIY skills to a professional and safe level.

“I remember talking to my husband; ‘I think I really want to do this so that I can get off of the recipes online and actually know how to create some of these products really tailored towards my daughter.’ So, that’s how I got started.”

The Pursuit of Natural Skincare Knowledge

Leslie’s initial goal was to explore natural makeup for her daughter, but her journey took an unexpected turn. She began by enrolling in the Diploma in Natural Skincare Formulation offered by the School, initially focusing on skincare rather than makeup.

“I’m looking at stuff that my friends are using. And, DIY extraordinaire, I’m like, ‘Let me see if I can do that. Let me see if I can do that!’”

Studying the Diploma, Leslie realized she could create similar skincare products herself. The course allowed her to understand the science and theory behind formulating effective and safe skincare products. It was a journey of discovery as she learned the differences between ingredients, deciphered ingredient labels, and understood the role of various components in skincare.

“I love research. I love writing. I love learning. Walking through all the intro stuff, I couldn’t get through it fast enough. It’s so interesting. And I’m like, ‘Oh, that’s why that DIY thing does not work!’”

From Law to Natural Skincare: Leslie Culver's Journey of Beauty with Purpose Student success stories

The methodological approach to setting out step-by-step modules, learning the theory first and developing knowledge towards the formulating, was the perfect approach for Leslie. Appreciating the school’s approach of providing a strong foundation in theory and principles before embarking on hands-on formulation, she says;

“By the time I got to even the raw ingredients in module five and then finally to being able to actually start formulating something in module eight, I felt very prepared.”

This approach equipped her with a profound understanding of the science behind skincare and cosmetics, enabling her to make informed choices and create products that were safe and effective.

Leslie’s newfound knowledge of ingredients also transformed her perspective on what was natural and what wasn’t. She shifted from rejecting products with unfamiliar ingredients to recognizing the value of certain natural components, even when they bore unfamiliar names.

“I used to look at the back of ingredients and if I couldn’t recognize every word on there, then it was trash. I don’t want to see the word alcohol at all. But I didn’t understand what they were because there are things like cetyl alcohol. It just doesn’t have a plant-based name, it’s health-based. It’s an alcohol and a sugar, and it’s a fatty alcohol that’s coming from an oil. It’s totally natural.”

This shift in understanding allowed her to appreciate the complexity and diversity of natural ingredients and empowered Leslie to share her knowledge to other parents looking at the confusing names on her products’ ingredient lists.

Leslie confirms, “Having the confidence that I could now explain that to somebody ‘Hold on, let me tell you what this is and why it’s necessary,’ was a very highlighting part of the course for me.”

Advice for Budding Formulators

For those aspiring to become skincare formulators, Leslie emphasizes the importance of gaining a solid theoretical foundation and to not be afraid of jumping in!

“I think something that the school talks about from the very beginning is having that vision in mind and just holding onto that.”

Even so, Leslie sometimes feels overwhelmed by the prospect of formulating a new product, and feels she could never make a product like the established brands.

“I kind of come back to center again and I’m like, ‘Okay, I’m doing this for my daughter. I think it’s having that clear vision. When I’m kind of focused, then it doesn’t feel as scary.’”

The Birth of “Nia: Natural Beauty with Purpose”

As Leslie’s knowledge and skills grew, so did her vision. She founded her brand, “Nia: Natural Beauty with Purpose“, inspired by her daughter’s name, which means “purpose” in Swahili. Her goal was to create products with clear intentions — products that were not just cosmetic but served a greater purpose; “I’m definitely purposeful, and I really am about sustainable and repurposing.”

For her daughter, she formulated makeup that helped manage oil and minimize shine under stage lights, whereas her products for more mature skin incorporated ingredients aimed at fine line reduction. Leslie’s makeup products were not about concealing but enhancing natural beauty while addressing specific skincare concerns.

“So, Nia might have to have something that is a very easy skincare makeup remover, a light hydrating moisturizer, while my friend’s going to need something a bit more intense that maybe has some particular active ingredients that are helping more active cell regeneration, something a bit more intense.”

From Law to Natural Skincare: Leslie Culver's Journey of Beauty with Purpose Student success stories

Leslie’s formulations also focus on the healing and protective properties of natural ingredients.

She has successfully transitioned from a DIY enthusiast to a skincare entrepreneur, offering products that resonate with those seeking clean, purpose-driven skincare. Inspired by the many dancers practicing routines barefoot, Leslie formulated a natural ingredient antimicrobial “barre foot spray”.

Leslie’s plans for the future

Looking ahead, Leslie envisions expanding her brand, reaching a broader audience, and making an impact in the natural skincare industry. She’s passionate about expanding her makeup range and being ‘intentional’.

sharing her knowledge with others, both in skincare formulation and the legal aspects of the beauty industry. With a clear sense of purpose, Leslie’s journey continues to inspire others to embrace natural skincare and beauty with a meaningful cause.

“A lot of times, when you buy eyeshadow palettes, it’s got five, six, however many colors, and you have your three favorites. So, I’m even thinking through things like that, thinking through how can I allow people to get just what they need and not have the waste there?”

As Leslie continues to expand her brand and inspire others, her story reminds us that beauty and purpose can coexist, and the pursuit of knowledge can lead to transformative change. From a law professor to a skincare entrepreneur, Leslie Culver’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of passion, purpose, and education in the world of natural skincare.

We’re inspired by Leslie. Now, what about you? What’s your next step?

What we love about Leslie is her desire to do things for herself. We love how she gives everything a go, tries to be creative and thinks for herself. She is an inspiration to us all. With a full time job and kids to think about, a home to run and family to support, Leslie shows us that it is possible to find the time to do something you love.

What’s better about Leslie’s story is how much formulating her own natural skincare products has benefited her life and her family’s too. She has gone that one step further than creating her own products. She has now formulated her own range of products that she is now selling with plans to expand in the future.

It all started with a critical thought about whether she really wanted to be using products bought in shops on her daughter. That led to some research, a bit of trial and error, some failed products as well as some good ones, before enrolling with the School of Natural Skincare.

Now her passion and hobby has led to something much greater and more ambitious than she had ever imagined.

If Leslie’s story is as inspiring for you as it is for us and if you’d like to follow in her footsteps and learn to formulate your own natural skincare products like the professionals – just for a fraction the price! – then we’d love to welcome you to the enrollment of our Diploma in Natural Skincare Formulation. From beauty advent calendars to formulating her own vegan skincare: One woman's journey to launch her own vegan skincare brand Student success stories Making your own skincare products is not only a fun hobby, but it can also be a way to take control of what you put on your skin. However, formulating effective and safe natural skincare products requires knowledge and skills that not everyone has. That’s where the School of Natural Skincare comes in. For one of their students, the School of Natural Skincare has been a game-changer in pursuing her passion for natural cosmetics.

Amy, a 42-year-old mother from Buckinghamshire, UK, had been working in marketing for most of her career. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, she had a moment of realization that she wanted to do something else with her life. Amy had always been interested in skincare products and makeup, but as she approached her 40s, she became obsessed with them. She was the kind of person who always bought beauty advent calendars to see what new products were available.

Turning Vegan Presented A Challenge That Became An Opportunity

When Amy turned vegan, she realized that finding good quality, effective vegan skincare products was harder than she thought. She assumed that if a product was labeled as cruelty-free, it was probably vegan, but she soon discovered that this was not always the case. Amy became concerned that the products she was using might still contain animal products. The market for vegan skincare products was limited, and the options for her nine-year-old daughter, who had suffered from dry skin since birth, were even more limited.

In fact, we wrote an article that warns people about this called, Vegan Doesn’t Mean Natural: Embracing Natural Vegan Skincare which you might also like to read.

Amy had to make a difficult choice between her moral values and her daughter’s skin. She decided to start making her own skincare products. However, she found it challenging to navigate the world of natural skincare formulation. She would buy products with hope, only to be disappointed by their texture, smell, or effectiveness.

You can watch her 7 minute feature video by clicking the video below.

Amy started experimenting with making her own skincare products. However, she found that it was difficult to find reliable information and resources on natural skincare formulation. “I was self-taught through a lot of trial and error, reading books and articles online. But it was difficult to know what information was trustworthy, and I was making a lot of mistakes,” Amy explains.

Amy knew that she needed to learn more about formulating skincare products and ingredients. She started looking at various resources online, but they were often confusing and didn’t give her a good understanding of what she was doing.

That’s when Amy discovered the School of Natural Skincare Formulation. She enrolled in the Diploma in Natural Skincare Formulation online course to gain a deeper understanding of formulating natural skincare products. Amy was impressed with the program’s hands-on approach, and she appreciated the detailed explanations of the ingredients and their benefits. She felt confident that she was learning from experts who were passionate about natural skincare.

“I was looking for a comprehensive course that would teach me everything I needed to know about natural skincare formulation. When I came across the School of Natural Skincare, I was impressed by the quality of the content and the community of like-minded people who were studying there,” Amy says.

From beauty advent calendars to formulating her own vegan skincare: One woman's journey to launch her own vegan skincare brand Student success stories

The course covers a range of topics, from the science of natural skincare ingredients to the practical aspects of formulation and product testing. “The course was challenging, but also incredibly informative and inspiring. I loved that it was self-paced, so I could fit it around my other commitments,” Amy recalls.

One of the things that stood out to Amy about the course was the support she received from the School of Natural Skincare team and the community of students. “The feedback and guidance I received from the tutors were invaluable. They were always there to answer my questions and help me troubleshoot any issues I was having with my formulations,” Amy says.

Amy also appreciated the supportive community of fellow students who were equally passionate about natural skincare.

Taking Her Skills And Knowledge To Another Level

Amy’s experience with the School of Natural Skincare’s Diploma in Natural Skincare Formulation was transformative. She learned how to create effective, natural skincare products for herself and her daughter. “I was compromising before, and now I can make exactly what I want,” she said.

She also explained, “Before the course, I was making products that were hit-or-miss in terms of effectiveness and safety. Now, I have the knowledge and skills to create products that I’m confident in and that I know are safe for me and my customers.”

Thanks to her Diploma in Natural Skincare Formulation, Amy can now do things she couldn’t do before. She can create custom skincare products that are effective and align with her values. Amy is excited about the future. “I want to help other people like me who struggle to find natural, effective skincare products,” she said.

Studying with the School of Natural Skincare has helped Amy in many ways.

The course has also opened up new opportunities for Amy. “I’ve started my own natural skincare business, and I’m now able to offer a range of products that I’m proud of. I’m also able to customize products for my clients based on their individual needs and preferences,” Amy says.

Looking to the future, Amy has ambitious goals for her business. “I want to continue to grow my business and reach more people who are looking for effective and natural skincare products. I also want to keep learning and experimenting with new ingredients and formulations,” Amy says.

Amy is currently working on finalizing her natural beauty business and skincare products, so it’s this watch this space! There’s more to come from Amy and we’ll be excited to share an update here about her business with links to her website very soon!

From Massage to Skincare: How One Woman Found Her Passion in Natural Formulations Student success stories As a teenager, Claudette had always been fascinated with holistic massage. So, at the age of 19, she decided to pursue her passion by enrolling in a massage school in Hawaii. She loved everything about the course, especially how it focused on natural and organic products. After graduation, Claudette spent many years working in the industry, building a successful career as a massage therapist.

However, after giving birth to her second child, Claudette decided to take a break from her career and focus on motherhood. As her son started kindergarten, Claudette knew it was time to start building her career again. She was eager to improve her skills and explore her passion for natural skincare.

Claudette’s Journey to the Formulate her own Natural Skincare Products

Before finding the School of Natural Skincare, Claudette had been making her own skincare products for some time, but she found it difficult to find reliable resources to improve her formulations. She explains:

“I’ve always been interested in natural skincare, and I’ve been making my own products for years. But I found that a lot of the recipes I came across online were incomplete or unreliable, and I wasn’t sure where to turn for guidance.”

Claudette searched online for courses in natural skincare formulation, but nothing seemed to fit her values or her dreams for the future.

Then, Claudette stumbled upon the School of Natural Skincare’s website and the Diploma in Natural Skincare Formulation. She was immediately impressed with the level of expertise and knowledge on offer. She recalls:

“I was blown away by the School’s approach to natural skincare. The website provided detailed information on natural skincare ingredients, as well as a range of courses and resources designed to help students develop their skills and knowledge.”

The school’s values and approach to natural skincare aligned perfectly with Claudette’s own values, and she knew she had found the right place to invest her time and money.

You can watch her 8 minute feature video by clicking the video below.

Claudette was impressed with the quality of the school’s free formulations, even before she enrolled. She appreciated the honesty and clarity of the information presented on the school’s website, and she felt confident that she could trust the school with her education.

Claudette decided to enroll in the Diploma in Natural Skincare Formulation, and she was thrilled with her experience. She found the course to be incredibly comprehensive and practical, providing plenty of hands-on experience and real-world examples. She explains:

“The Diploma course covered everything from the basics of natural skincare formulation to more advanced techniques and approaches. I particularly appreciated the practical focus of the course, which gave me plenty of opportunities to develop my skills and knowledge.”

From Massage to Skincare: How One Woman Found Her Passion in Natural Formulations Student success stories

Once Claudette enrolled in the course, she was amazed at how easy it was to follow the modules. Everything was laid out step by step, making it simple for her to learn and grow her skills. Claudette was also impressed with the beauty and user-friendliness of the school’s website and online classroom, which made her learning experience even more enjoyable.

One of the things that Claudette appreciated most about the course was the level of support provided by the School of Natural Skincare. She had access to a dedicated tutor who provided regular feedback and guidance, as well as a community of other students who were also passionate about natural skincare. She says:

“The support I received from the School was incredible. My tutor was always on hand to answer my questions and provide feedback on my formulations, and the community of students was incredibly supportive and motivating.”

What Can Claudette Do Now, That She Couldn’t Do Before?

Before taking the course, Claudette had only worked with essential oils, but she had always been interested in skincare formulation. She had experimented with making her own products for herself and her family, but she had never been able to recreate the same formula twice.

After completing the Diploma in Natural Skincare Formulation, Claudette’s approach to skincare formulation completely changed. She now had the knowledge and skills to create consistent, effective, and natural skincare products, and she was excited to apply what she had learned to her career.

Leanne Simcock is a 41-year-old mother of two from Melbourne, Australia who has always been interested in healthcare, particularly skincare. She holds a bachelor’s degree in health science in natural medicine and currently works in administration at a hospital.

Leanne’s passion for natural skincare led her to try and make her own products over ten years ago, but she struggled to get them right. “I started looking up recipes in books and online and I started trying to make products, and I just found I was having a lot of problems with products separating and being too oily,” she explained.

Despite her early struggles, Leanne persisted in her desire to create her own skincare products, and eventually stumbled upon the School of Natural Skincare in 2015. “I came across the School of Natural Skincare, and that was when I first enrolled in the first couple of courses, which back then was the Beautiful Body Care course and the Facial Skincare course,” she recalls. She then enrolled onto the School’s Certificate in Making Natural Skincare Products and Diploma in Natural Skincare Formulation online courses.

Leanne had been searching for comprehensive training in natural cosmetics for months when she came across the School of Natural Skincare. She was immediately drawn to the school’s program, which covered everything from the basics of natural cosmetics to advanced formulation techniques. She was impressed by the experienced instructors and the hands-on training that the school offered. Leanne knew that this was the perfect place for her to learn and grow.

Finally, Leanne had found the formula to create products that looked and felt as they were intended. “I just really loved it and I finally had the formula of how to make products that actually look like they were supposed to,” she said.

Leanne’s background in natural medicine meant that she was already aware of the potentially harmful chemicals in conventional skincare products. “I know a lot about chemicals in products and the crazy things that they put in. So I really love organic ingredients and am really mindful of what I put on my skin,” she explained.

Despite her knowledge, it was the School of Natural Skincare that gave her the skills to create effective and safe natural products. “I realized that I really needed to do a proper course in learning how to formulate products,” she said.

Transformative Experience at the School of Natural Skincare

Leanne’s experience at the School of Natural Skincare was transformative. She was thrilled to be surrounded by knowledgeable and experienced instructors who provided her with invaluable feedback and support throughout her training. The hands-on training and practice gave her the confidence to create her own line of natural face creams, lotions, and balms.

“Studying at the School of Natural Skincare was an incredible experience,” Leanne says. “I learned so much from the instructors and gained invaluable experience from the hands-on training. It was amazing to see my skills grow and to gain the confidence I needed to launch my own business.”

Launching a Successful Natural Cosmetics Business

With the skills and knowledge she gained from the School of Natural Skincare, Leanne is in the process of launching her own business with a line of natural skincare products. She is planning to market her products to individuals seeking natural and sustainable skincare options, and the response in her research has so far been overwhelmingly positive. Those who have tried her products (essentially, her first customers) appreciate the high-quality ingredients and the attention to detail that went into each product.

“Starting my own business is a dream come true,” Leanne says. “I am finally able to turn my passion for natural cosmetics into a profitable venture, and I owe it all to the School of Natural Skincare. The training and support I received there were instrumental in my success.”

Thanks to her studies, Leanne has been able to turn her passion for natural cosmetics into what very well could be a successful business. “I have my own business now, and I make all my own products, and I sell them,” she explained. Leanne’s experience at the School of Natural Skincare has allowed her to create products that are safe, effective, and aesthetically pleasing. “It’s just been amazing, like the difference that it’s made,” she said.

Leanne’s story is an inspiring example of how a passion for natural cosmetics can be turned into a successful career with the right education and training. Thanks to her studies at the School of Natural Skincare, Leanne has been able to achieve her goals and make a positive impact in the world of skincare.

We’re looking forward to the prospect of updating this case study with details of her natural beauty business!

Goals for the Future

Leanne has big plans for the future. She wants to expand her business and create new and innovative natural cosmetics products. She is excited about the possibilities and is confident that she can continue to grow and thrive in the industry.

“I’m so grateful for the training and support I received at the School of Natural Skincare,” Leanne says. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without their help. I can’t wait to see what the future holds and to continue creating natural cosmetics products that make a difference in people’s lives.”

From Hobbyist to Entrepreneur: How One Natural Skincare Student Is Turning Her Passion into a Successful Business Student success stories

The Power of Passion and Importance of Comprehensive Training

Leanne’s success story is a testament to the power of passion and the importance of comprehensive training. The School of Natural Skincare provided her with the skills, knowledge, and support she needed to turn her passion into a profitable business.

The School of Natural Skincare played an instrumental role in Leanne’s success. Before discovering the school, Leanne struggled to find the resources and guidance she needed to create high-quality natural cosmetics products. After completing the program at the school, she is now in a position to be able to launch a successful business and pursue her passion for natural cosmetics.

Leanne is grateful for the training she received and excited for what the future holds. As she looks to expand her business and create new products, she knows that the skills she learned at the School of Natural Skincare will be invaluable.

Would you like to follow in Leanne’s footsteps?

If you’re interested in natural & organic beauty like Leanne was, then perhaps you could learn to make your own gorgeous natural skincare products? Maybe also haircare, makeup and color cosmetics or soap? We have a range of courses to suit every level, product type and interest.

Leanne started with our Certificate in Making Natural Skincare Products online course which contains over 120+ skincare recipes that are properly put together following and adhering to the most stringent EU regulations. Following these recipes will not only enable you to make your own complete range of products but you’ll also hone your practical product making skills along the way. Find out more about this course here.

When you feel confident enough, you can progress onto our Diploma in Natural Skincare Formulation which teaches students to formulate their own natural skincare products from scratch, without following other people’s recipes. In effect you create your own! The quality you’ll create will be professional level so you’ll be all set up to either make them for yourself, family and friends or to sell and launch a successful brand. Find out more here.

We don’t stop there though! We also have a Diploma in Natural Haircare Formulation, Diploma in Formulating Natural Makeup and Color Cosmetics, and a Diploma in Soap Making as well as a Natural Cosmetic Formulation Club for the more advanced and confident formulators.

Learning the Art of Natural Cosmetics: How the School of Natural Skincare Helped Shahad Realize Her Dream Student success stories Shahad, a 19-year-old based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has always been interested in skincare. “As a little girl I would always create my own things and call them my little potions,” she says. She started following DIY skincare recipes from YouTube, blogs, and books and became more interested in the topic.

However, things took a turn for the worse in 2017 when Shahad’s sensitive skin began to develop rashes, causing her extreme discomfort. “I went to so many different doctors, dermatologists, and I started getting prescribed a bunch of creams, a bunch of all products, body lotions, shower gels, salves, bombs, anything you could think of, and they were all targeted for sensitive skin,” she recalls.

Despite using only skincare and body care products that were supposed to be suitable for sensitive skin, Shahad’s condition did not improve. “That’s when I started learning about what an INCI list is, and I started to read the ingredients, and I would search every single ingredient,” she says. She was shocked to find certain ingredients in products marketed for sensitive skin. “Some of the stuff I was shocked that it was even in something for sensitive skin, I was like, well, no wonder it’s not working,” she says.

Determined to find a solution, Shahad decided to make her own skincare products using raw ingredients that actually made her feel better. However, she struggled to find recipes that worked for her. “I followed a recipe online, and I liked it but I didn’t really resonate with it, and I wanted to make it my own, but it was very difficult because, as you know, with cups and measuring spoons and everything, I was like, okay, how am I going to figure out the ratios? It was very confusing and it took a really long time,” she explains.

Eventually, Shahad was able to create her own skincare product that made her feel much better. “It actually made me feel so much better but I knew that I could make it better,” she says.

However, creating her own skincare products was not without its challenges. “Anything that has water needs preservatives, and I was very confused. Okay, if it’s natural, does it need a preservative? Well, yes it does. But online there’s so much misinformation and there’s so much information you can feel confused, you can feel overwhelmed and you just don’t know who to trust, where to look, it was just very overwhelming,” she says.

Introduction: From Hobbyist to Budding Beauty Entrepreneur

Shahad was always passionate about natural cosmetics. She spent countless hours researching and experimenting with different ingredients and formulations, developing her own products at home.

But it wasn’t until she enrolled in the School of Natural Skincare’s Diploma in Natural Skincare Formulation and became a member of the Natural Cosmetic Formulation Club that she was able to think about turning her hobby and passion for natural beauty into a business.

As Shahad told us, “I had always loved making natural cosmetics as a hobby, but I never really thought about turning it into a business until I took the course at the School of Natural Skincare. It gave me the knowledge and confidence I needed to start selling my products.”

Before The School of Natural Skincare: Shahad’s Journey to Natural Cosmetics

Before enrolling with the School of Natural Skincare, Shahad had been making natural cosmetics for several years. As she explained, “I started making my own cosmetics because I was frustrated with the chemicals and synthetic ingredients in commercial products. I wanted something that was natural and good for my skin.”

While Shahad had a passion for natural cosmetics, she struggled to turn it into a viable business on her own. She had limited knowledge of business and marketing, and found it difficult to reach customers and price her products effectively.

Discovering The School of Natural Skincare: Enrolling in the Natural Cosmetics Course

Shahad first learned about the School of Natural Skincare’s courses in natural cosmetics through a friend. Intrigued, she decided to enroll in the course to improve her skills and gain a better understanding of the industry.

As Shahad told us, “I was looking for a way to take my hobby to the next level, and the course at the School of Natural Skincare seemed like the perfect opportunity. I wanted to learn more about the science behind natural cosmetics, as well as how to turn my passion into a successful business.”

Studying with the School of Natural Skincare: Refining Product Offerings and Building a Brand

During her time with the School of Natural Skincare, Shahad learned a great deal about natural cosmetics and how to build a successful business in the industry. She gained valuable knowledge about ingredient sourcing, formulation, and product safety, as well as marketing and branding strategies.

As Shahad explained, “The course was incredibly comprehensive and covered all aspects of the natural cosmetics industry. I learned so much about product formulation, ingredient sourcing, and safety regulations, which has been invaluable in running my business.”

In addition to refining her product offerings and building a strong brand identity, Shahad also learned how to price her products effectively and reach new customers. She credits the course with giving her the skills and knowledge she needed to take her business to the next level.

The Future: Shahad’s Goals and Lessons Learned

Looking to the future, Shahad has ambitious plans for her business. She hopes to expand her product line even further and reach new customer segments. She also wants to continue educating herself on the latest trends and techniques in the industry, and plans to take additional courses in the future.

As Shahad told us, “I’m really excited about the future of my business. I have so many ideas for new products and ways to reach customers, and I feel confident that I have the skills and knowledge to make it happen.”

She also told us “I want to offer more products that are not just natural but also have a social impact,” she says. “I want to work with more women who are looking for jobs and who want to learn the skills that I have.”

Shahad also hopes to collaborate with other businesses and organizations that share her commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. “I want to work with other businesses that are aligned with my values,” she says. “I want to make a bigger impact and create a better future for all of us.”

Through her journey, Shahad has learned several valuable lessons that she would like to share with others. She emphasizes the importance of education and continuous learning, and the value of seeking out experienced mentors who can provide guidance and support. She also stresses the importance of perseverance and dedication, and encourages others to pursue their passions with determination and enthusiasm.

Overall, Shahad is grateful for the knowledge and skills she gained through studying with the School of Natural Skincare. “Without the school, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” she says. “I wouldn’t have the knowledge or the confidence to start my own business. I’m so glad that I found the school and took the courses.”

How Sarah’s mission to detox her skincare led to the launch of her own small batch luxury natural skincare brand https://www.schoolofnaturalskincare.com/student-feature-sarah-price/ Fri, 18 Nov 2022 15:44:01 +0000 https://www.schoolofnaturalskincare.com/?p=136903 The post How Sarah’s mission to detox her skincare led to the launch of her own small batch luxury natural skincare brand appeared first on School of Natural Skincare.

]]>

When she was pregnant with her daughter in 2016, Sarah Price suddenly became a lot more conscious of what she was putting on her body, now that she was growing a life inside it!

I always have my nails painted and whilst on an app I saw about how nail polish was toxic.

How Sarah’s mission to detox her skincare led to the launch of her own small batch luxury natural skincare brand Beauty Business Advice Student success stories And I was like, “Oh, no. I’m growing a human, I want to make sure I’m doing the right thing.”

So she started reading about it, and discovered a lot of things that caused her alarm such as hormone disruptors used in products. She continued her deep-dive and researching ingredients she was putting on her body and quickly found out that “I don’t want to use that stuff anymore”.

Sarah then began looking for better products with natural ingredients that were more in line with the values she held dear, but the brands whose products she felt comfortable with were just out of her price range, especially now that preparing for a baby, “money was kind of tight.”

That’s when she decided…

“I’m going to learn how to make this stuff myself. So I started doing research online. And it was great, but I just needed a place to have a consolidated, one-fits-all type thing.”

This led Sarah to start exploring the possibility of making her own skincare products, and through her research she found the School of Natural Skincare. She chatted about the idea of enrolling onto the School of Natural Skincare’s Natural Haircare & Skincare Formulator Program with her husband, who then surprised her with an enrollment to the School as an anniversary gift!

This program consists of both the Diploma in Natural Haircare Formulation and Diploma in Natural Skincare Formulation and comes complete with a selection of bonus classes.

How Sarah’s mission to detox her skincare led to the launch of her own small batch luxury natural skincare brand Beauty Business Advice Student success stories

For Sarah, the difference between the School of Natural Skincare and everything else she was looking at was that “everything was covered in one course”

This meant no longer piecing together incomplete information!

“It seemed like the most comprehensive out of everything that I was looking for, and it really seemed like I was going to learn. The School of Natural Skincare gave me the impression that ‘I’m going to teach you.’

And it has really helped me grow and take my formulating to the next level. So I wouldn’t be where I’m at without these courses. It’s definitely, definitely the best decision I ever made.”

Before enrolling with the School things were very different

It wasn’t all plain sailing! Before finding the School of Natural Skincare, her research led her down all sorts of dead end alleyways.

“I just started out with Pinterest and finding DIY recipes. And I was finding a lot of things that were like, ‘Use two tablespoons of essential oil.’ And I just thought that seemed sketchy and expensive. I didn’t want to put that much oil into something because they are very concentrated.”

And so I had worked on my aromatherapy knowledge and at first, I just started mixing things together and just getting the feel for things. If I wanted a body butter, I just mixed some butters and oils together and figured out the ratio and went from there.”

Sarah quickly realized that this was not the correct way to go about things and upon embarking on her studies with the School of Natural Skincare she quickly realized the mistakes she had been making.

“I definitely wish I would’ve started this way first because it really gives you that good foundation, and I wouldn’t have wasted so many ingredients back in the day. But it was also nice seeing those aha moments and being like, ‘Oh, I wish I would’ve known this back then.’

The course was so comprehensive. There was so much information. There was so much inside the course it’s hard to explain except to say that I learned more from the course than I had done in all my years of prior research. “

Sarah told us how the gaps in her knowledge became very apparent as she worked through the course but taking the course has helped her to do what she set out to do.

“It’s so comprehensive. It gives you everything you need to really do well. And you guys make sure that we succeed, and I love that. I’m not missing anything, I don’t feel like I need to continue research. It’s one big package, and it’s worth every penny.”

From studying natural skincare to launching her own bran

When she started, Sarah’s plan was to stay very low-key and just make some bath bombs for herself, which fitted her ethos of wanting safer, healthier products for her body and her baby. However, the popularity of her products soon grew as she started offering samples to friends and now, her brand, Pampered Life, has taken off in a way she never would have imagined!

How Sarah’s mission to detox her skincare led to the launch of her own small batch luxury natural skincare brand Beauty Business Advice Student success stories

From its humble beginnings back in 2019, Pampered Life has ridden the wave of a global pandemic and gone from strength to strength, now comprising 24 skincare products, with a range of 16 haircare products set to launch in time for Christmas 2022.

Sarah describes it as “really rewarding” to have friends who are “really picky” about the products they use, come back to her begging for more of one of her products because it’s the “coolest thing they’ve tried!”

For Sarah, it is really special to be able to bring happiness to someone’s day by giving them a product which is tailored to their specific needs and helps them solve a problem they’ve been having with their skin.

A unique feature of Pampered Life’s product range is that each product comes with an individual Bible verse on the packaging.

This is Sarah’s way to…

“really uplift and empower everyone because it is more than just skincare; it’s about feeling good about yourself, and just being positive and happy and finding the positive in life.”

By doing this, Sarah hopes to remind her customers that self-care is not selfish, but that actually “it’s good. It’s good to refill your cup.”

How Sarah’s mission to detox her skincare led to the launch of her own small batch luxury natural skincare brand Beauty Business Advice Student success stories

The driving force behind Sarah’s succes

Born with congenital heart defects, health is of utmost importance to Sarah and she truly values products which contribute to health and wellbeing. Formulating products which do exactly that give Sarah “a purpose other than being a mom and wife” and she proudly describes it as “an honor and a gift to be able to share my talents and to give back.”

She says,

“When I went to school to do biology, my goal was to work in a lab and to help people. And it’s a completely different lab. I’m doing it here in my house, but I’m still creating things and I’m still helping people. And so it’s really just the best gift ever.”

Sarah very modestly attributes the success of her business to having chosen to study with the School of Natural Skincare, saying that

“I wouldn’t be where I’m at without these courses. So it’s definitely, definitely the best decision I ever made… It’s so comprehensive. It gives you everything you need to really do well. And you guys make sure that we succeed, and I love that. I’m not missing anything, I don’t feel like I need to continue research. It’s one big package, and it’s worth every penny.”

Perhaps most excitingly, Sarah has actually been able to track the growth of her business as she completed her studies and in fact she told us she can

“see a line in my sales from when I completed the diplomas versus when I started… it really gives you that social proof as well for your customers to believe in your products.”
